In this case:. C1= concentration of stock sol
V2= volume of stock solution added (we are calculating fo rthis amount, therefore let this amount be 'y')
C2= concentration of working sol
V2= volume of working sol to be prepared
Here lets assume that you want to prepare 1 litre of 1X TAE working solution from the 50X stock solution,
thus plugging the values in the above equation:
(50)(y ml),= (1)(1000ml)
y = 20ml.
Thus, you need to dissolve 20 ml of the 50X stock TAE in 980ml of water to get 1L of 1X TAE working solution.
This equation can be used to solve problems like this, thus is very handy.
