Please be detailed. What is a capping agent in regards to Organic chemistry and synthesis? I'm reading a research article that I have to write a summary paper on, and in reference to further the green chemistry approach in making nanostructures, they find a solvent that works both as a reducing and capping agent.
Please let me know!

I found the following in Wiki:
Capping agents such as trisodium citrate are used to stop growth of nanoparticles and stabilise them from aggregation. Its effects are generally short lived though, it has been reported though that using trisodium citrate with the lee and miesel method can lead to particles that are stable for up to a month.
