Does Heart cells get repaired and replaced by itself

Cardiac cells have a limited ability to undergo mitosis, and therefore are limited in the generation of new cells. However, in an event of an injury, they do form scar tissue which involves the production of collagen and elastin fibres as part of the repair process. Cardiac myocytes can also enlarge. This is important during events such as myocardial infarctions, where areas of the heart muscle die and have to be replaced quickly.
