The ͯ is an exponent. It represents the number of half-lives that have occurred.Substitute ͯ for the number of half-lives given. If 2 half-lives have occurred, then it will be (0.5)² and calculate accordingly.......
This is a 3 part question.
Estimate the percent remaining of the radioisotope after the given number of half lives.
a) 0.5
b) 1.25
c) 3.75

Also, it would really help if you could explain it! Thank you so much!
(My teacher is not good at teaching and we never get the material.)

In case you didn't understand what ChemTeam answered when you lasted posted this question, I will try to explain.

The formula is (0.5) ͯ to determine percent remaining (in decimal form). The ͯ is an exponent. It represents the number of half-lives that have occurred. Substitute ͯ for the number of half-lives given. If 2 half-lives have occurred, then it will be (0.5)² and calculate accordingly. In my example, the answer is 0.25 or 25%. If you don't understand exponents, it means how many times you are multiplying the number with itself. In my example, (0.5)² = (0.5) (0.5) = 0.25. If the exponent was 4 then it would be
(0.5) (0.5) (0.5) (0.5) = 0.0625 If you don't know how to convert a decimal to a percentage, then multiply by 100, or simply move the decimal point 2 places over to the right. In the preceding examples, 0.25 = 25% and 0.0625 = 6.25%

You could to use a calculator to easily figure out these partial half-lives of 3.75 and 1.25. Or is this a multiple choice and one of these is the correct answer?

Perhaps if you weren't a such a noisy boy, then you would get the material your teacher is giving. This is basic middle school algebra and math and the concept should be easily grasped with little effort. If you have questions on the material, then you should ask your teacher for help. Not say that your teacher isn't good at teaching. Your teacher is probably teaching several dozen students throughout the day, and if you don't say you need a little help understanding something, then your teacher can't help you.

I found a students discussion board called essay boards...i think there have lots of skilled members standing ready to help the students like you...So, you can use them if you need any homework helps and other academic related assistance...(personally i don't have any experience with them, but it seems coooool...)

After one half life, half of the radioactive matter is gone. 100% radio to 50% radio in one half life.

If " . 5 " equals half a half life, I'm assuming 75% radioactive matter would be left. However, I am not expert in this field lol.
