According to Darwin's theory of natural selection and "survival of the fittest", we want to be able to find the the best possible mate so we can pass the best possible genes to our offspring. If that is the case, why is acne still around, since it's considered a hindering trait and lowers one's chance of finding a mate? I suffer from moderate acne (nodules, whiteheads, etc.) and it's definitely biological (not hormonal) because I've had it since I was 11 (I'm 17), and everyone on my dad's side of the family has dealt with it. I know I'm probably missing a lot of details with my theory, and everyone's probably going to think I'm just a stupid teenager that doesn't know crap about genetics (I know the basics because I took AP Bio, but that isn't saying much), but I seriously want to know the reason why it hasn't dissappeared from the gene pool, because it's a pain in the *** to deal with and I can't imagine wanting any of my kids to have to deal with this issue. Heh, I got a little personal there, but I think I've made my point. Thoughts?

One, acne can't just disappear. Two, you have interpreted Charles Darwin's theory of evolution wrong. His theory, "Survival of the Fittest" is that the species most well adapted to it's environment will survive. For example, there is a slow giraffe and a fast dog. But, in their world, the only food grows on very high up trees. Although the dog may be stronger and healthier, it will not survive because it cannot reach the food on the high up trees. The giraffe is the "fittest" in this situation because it is the most adapted to it's environment. Also you mentioned people finding the very best person with the very best genes to pass off to your offspring, that is not true at all. If it was, your mom would never have had a baby (you) with your father because your father carried an acne gene. If you really loved someone and cancer ran in their family and it was likely they would probably someday die from it too, would you not marry them? I don't think so. Back to your question, I think acne will always exist. A lot of acne is caused by hormonal imbalances (that's why it shows up during puberty!) your parents could pass on hormonal imbalances to you through genes, or it could just be something that happens to your body regardless anything you do.
