Hi (: Im almost 16 and I have been really thinking about what i want to do as a job. I want to go to college. I have wanted to be a marine biologist since i was about 8. I don't mean training dolphins, since very few people get to do this. I mean any marine animal, i would love to take care of its habitat. I would also love to be a biologist in a zoo. Does anyone know what this is called? I thought zoologist but i dont think thats what i want, i want to have to take care of a certain animals exhibit, make sure its habitat is ok, has enough trees, food, etc....What type of biologists do this and how can i start at 16? Also, should i ask my biology teacher about getting started? Im homeschooled and do FLVS. Thanks so much! (:

There are so many things that a biologist can do. If you're really interested in biology then you should learn everything you can about every science discipline. They all rely on each other and borrow heavily from each other. Chemistry, in particular, is very important in biology.
If you want to learn more you should definitely ask you Bio teacher. He/she can point you in the right direction. Also, I suggest you look on iTunes U. There you can find college level lectures about nearly every type of science. Look for 100 level classes and 101 level classes first, they are the most basic and easiest to understand. Don't be discouraged if you don't understand the lectures, they are meant for college students.
Biology, and science in general, are fascinating subjects. The more you learn, the more you want to learn. Keep up with your school work and get good grades. Most of all, be curious about the world around you and how it works!!

volunteer at the zoo. They are always looking for people to get involved. It's crap work, but you'd get hands experience and then you'd find out if you really want to do that.
