Is it true that there wont be any noontime shadows on the day of spring equinox?

answers:
nineteenthly say: No.

Fred say: You could say, find, and observe, "A flag pole would momentarily cast no shadow at it's local solar noon on the equator on the Spring equinox."

But isn't it just greater living in the Northern Hemisphere to just state, "After March 20 the rays of the rising and setting sun will not reach the area under the Southern roof eve until after the date of September 23."

Or as I prefer to say and once said to amaze my daughter, "March 20th is the first day that the setting or rising sun rays will strike the North wall of the house until it will no longer do so after the date of September 23."
-
Ronald 7 say: It is true on the Equator
On the Tropic of Cancer at Summer Solstice and at the Tropic of Capricorn during the Winter Solstice
-
Tom S say: Shadows will have no "length" at the equator, precisely at local solar noon. There will still of course be shadows directly under objects like a gazebo roof for instance.
-
tham153 say: at the equator ONLY
-
busterwasmycat say: only at the exact equator, and then you still have a shadow, but you are on it. I am at 45 north, about, so the sun at noon will be at 45 degrees, about, and my shadow length will be essentially the same as my height (a right 45-45 triangle).
-
Adullah M say: Yes when you are standing at the Equinox at that time of 12 am. or zero Latitude.
-
Bill-M say: Depends on your latitude.
-
say: I heard you can balance an egg or something at noon.
-
tentofield say: At the equinoxes the Sun is vertically overhead at local apparent noon on the equator. There are no shadows. Away from the equator the Sun is not vertically overhead so there are shadows.
-
CarolOklaNola say: No, it is NOT true, and it is the autumnal equinox for the southern hemisphere.
-
Atheist Anthony say: Only if you live precisely on the equator.
