I am sure that one day our technological knowhow will make it possible but, if our sciences and technology has advanced that far it is even more likely that we will have found a planet, or planets, capable of sustaining human life and animal life of the kind we already have on Earth and will have 'cracked' the speed of light and they will be concentrating their efforts on colonizing those planets rather than trying to make hostile planets habitable.
Goodness knows what will happen if the habitable planets they find are already sustaining intelligent life.
Will they try to come to an agreement and share the planet(s)?, will they just not encroach on another civilization? or will they attempt to conquer and destroy the existing populations in order to colonise it themselves?
If it is the latter, is the human race any better than the aliens who tried to destroy the Earth in Independence Day?
