What could it have been?? Both "stars" were about my thumbs length with my arm stretched out. At first I thought it was satellite but they were so far apart I really don't know. What is 3 inches apart from earth equate to in space?

If you arm is 3 foot long and you make a circle measuring out 3 inch thumbs around the perimeter of a circle with you arm as the radius. pi * d gives about 5 degrees. 360 / (6*12*3.14/3)
The moon is about .5 degrees. Thumb can cover the moon.
If it was in orbit then the diameter of the earth dominates at 8Kmiles.
5 degrees on this circle is 5*3.14*8k/360 = 350 miles!!
Impossibly large thing.
If it was out in space then it would be larger still.
Do you mean they were 5 degrees apart?
(Did not check my math)

Well it depends how far away the objects actually were.
I think that it may have been an airplane with landing lights on turning past your direction maybe 10 km away or so.
At that distance the blue and red navigation lights are not visible.

More than likely - a pair of satellites that just happened to be in a position that was able to reflect sunlight off of their solar panels and down to you. What satellites they were - don't know, but you might be able to find out by using this site-
