One Way Manned Trip to Mars

There's a certain appeal to it - setting up a colony, finding ways to survive, the exploration...

However - with a family, and an established life here... I wouldn't be the one to do it. Imagine the Pilgrims leaving England, and landing at Plymouth Rock; or the settlers, going out west for land - they didn't know what they would find, and were essentially arriving to nothing. Granted, they still would have air, water, and some sort of food supply - things all lacking on Mars - but the story is very similar.

Maybe if they painted it as, "Go to Mars, set up camp, build a colony, AND A SPACEPORT!" More people *might* be attracted to it...

You would have to terraform it first. Which given Mars' inability to sustain an atmosphere would amount to artificially keeping oxygen there. Long story short given current technological constraints it is a thing of science fiction to have a sustainable colony on Mars. No one sane would go.

There are always people who will go for something like this.
People who came to the new world and set up colonies here.
People who live int he north and south pole.
Most people will not, of course, and some will gladly go once all the heavy lifting is done.
It takes special men (and women) to be the first.

Nobody in their right mind.....Bottom line....Mars is not large enough to have a strong enough gravity to hold a long term atmosphere. So in the end....the atmosphere will escape and the colony collapse.

I wouldn't. First of all it would be very lonely and there is a very high chance I could die before I even get to Mars so I don't even want to try it....
