I want to view the sun through smoked glass, why is it not safe ? I use the darkest spots on the smoked glass then make a lighter haze surrounding it to make sure the sunlight wont touch my eyes, the sun is orangish/reddish. This is for use of the Transit of Venus !!!

The smokiness blocks visible light but not uv light .... So what can end up happening is your iris opens because it detects less light but the smoked glass lets in all the UV light anyway - because your eye can't see UV and does not respond to UV brightness.....
