The sun emits a wide range of EM radiation, from infrared to ultraviolet. *Some* exposure is good for us; it generates vitamin D, and improves are general mood. Too much can be bad; Ultraviolet can cause skin damage, which can lead to cancer.
Everytime we step out in the sun's light, we take the chance that our exposure can lead down that path, but if we take the time to be careful, most of us will be safe.
