I was just reading this article about a theory, which says that the universe started as a single dimensional thread, which weaved itself into a 2 dimensional plane, and then expanded into three dimensions, all within the first milliseconds of our universe. Any smart people out there want to comment on this theory?

article: http://www.csmonitor.com/Science/2011/04…

*****please don't make any snide remarks about the irony between christian and science, or a christian news source reporting on the nature of the universe. I am not christian, and still find this site to be the most reliable news source around.

Physicists seem to be . . . adept at some combination of philosophy and speculation. I do not see how discovery of a possible 4th dimension implies the universe might have started out with much less.

Page 2 has, "At this stage, Stojkovic says, the notion of vanishing dimensions as one looks deeper into the universe's fiery beginning falls far short of a full-blown theory. " So maybe he is just publishing to avoid perishing.

I can't offer an opinion on it because I don't know enough at present, but I'll give the article a read in a bit as looks interesting.
Generally though if someone invokes string theory, I tend to go and hide! To big for my feeble brain.

I do get the feeling that we might be close to something now in terms of explaining the early universe. There's several experiments and missions involved and even the theoreticians are being upbeat. I think we should wait and see.

BUDDY,
One theory most widely accepted known is the big bang theory. Did you see the movie 2012?

-
No, a non dimensional point.

-
No, the universe "began" as a singularity.
