what have the people of the united states done to end whaling? what have people done to assist in a population boost of blue whales?

It is believed, but uncertain, that the population has increased slightly since the USSR banned whaling. However, the bigger problem right now is global warming. As the glaciers melt, the salinity of areas rich with krill (the blue whales only food) is decreasing. Thus the food supply is severely threatened. Add to that the PCBs already in ocean water and stored in blubber and fat, may increase the number of young born with defects, making them unable to survive. So, just stopping the killing isn't going to solve the whale's problems at this point.
