When a sting has detached from the hornet is it still venomous

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-10-18] [Hit: ]
how come , even after the sting (with the backside ) was detached from the body ( I think it detached when I turned my leg as I felt the sting dig deeper ) how come it was still effective ? the hand actually hurt more than the ankle.-The venom sac was obviously still attached to the stinger.Whats odd about this whole thing is the fact that Hornets and Wasps do not have barbed stingers, so they do NOT come off when the insect stings you.......
I was sleeping and then I felt like I'd been stabbed in my ankle. When I looked down I saw a small black part and I thought it was an electrical component of some sort because it looked like one of the parts from my earphones. I held it at the blunt part and I could see goo inside. It looked a lot like PVC glue and then I dropped it and the sharp part at the other end landed in between my middle and ring finger and the pain was unbearable. My fingers turned blue and I felt nauseous. The black specimen was taken to the hospital and the doctor said it was the backside of a hornet. When I went home, I dusted the sheets and I found half the body of the hornet ( without the backside of course ) and I could actually look inside it and it had the same goo-like substance. It was a lesser banded hornet which is common in Malaysia. I was wondering , how come , even after the sting (with the backside ) was detached from the body ( I think it detached when I turned my leg as I felt the sting dig deeper ) how come it was still effective ? the hand actually hurt more than the ankle.

The venom sac was obviously still attached to the stinger. What's odd about this whole thing is the fact that Hornets and Wasps do not have barbed stingers, so they do NOT come off when the insect stings you. Only bees have barbed stingers, which once in the skin, hold on and disconnect from the bee when it pulls away.

The wasps, hornets, bees, and ants of the tropics, like Malaysia, are larger and more powerful than their relatives in the USA or Europe, etc. Their stings can be very painful and can sometimes do harm to life and limb.

Be careful.

The answer to the question I think you are asking is yes. Even after death a hornet can sting you. And the stinger is still active if filled with venom after it is detached.
