Cumuliform clouds, the big puffy ones, produce rain showers. The clouds have definite edges and the rainfall does too. You can see this if you look at a shower from a distance. Wind will carry the rain away from the cloud as it falls so you could be in direct sunshine while being rained on from a cloud some distance away. You can't have rain without clouds but the clouds do not necessarily have to be directly above you.

Well, if you see it, then yes, it's obviously possible. Clouds don't have to cover the complete sky in order to be too dense to hold in the moisture.
