Optics - mirror question

THEN, distance is unimportant.......
We were told in physics that the length of a mirror needed to reflect your whole body is half your height, and that that height is independent of your distance from the mirror.

But how is that possible? I just tried this with my mirror at home, and I could very clearly see more of my body as I backed away from it.

The bottom of the mirror must be 1/2 your height from the floor. The length of the mirror is not particularly important, except that to see your whole body the top must be at least at a height from the floor of the height of a point midway between the top of your head and your eye level.
THEN, distance is unimportant.
