this could save a bit of time thanks.-Though there is nothing wrong, but conventionally we use 10^m notation only. The E notation is used in computer programming.Ivan-Dont use E, use the rules for scientific notation.......
Can I use like 2.9979E^(8) in an A level physics exam without loosing marks, I'm just focusing on the E part. Or will I have to write it long hand, this could save a bit of time thanks.

Don't use "E", use the rules for scientific notation.

In this case, 2.9979 * 10^8
