I'm doing a gcse phyics past paper and im stuck on this question.
When the potential difference between the student and a nearby earthed metal dome
reached 15 kV, a spark jumped between the student and the earthed dome. The spark
transformed 30 mJ of energy into heat, light and sound. (1 mJ = 0.001 J)
much appreciated.

January 2010 past paper eh?
Use the equation in the box to calculate the charge carried by the spark:
energy transformed = potential difference x charge
--------
Charge = energy transformed / potential difference
30mJ of energy is 0.003 because the question tells us 1mj 0.001 J.
The unit for potential difference is V so we need to convert kV to V, so 15 kV is 1500V.
Now put those into the equation so do 0.003 / 1500 and you get 0.000002 coloumbs or 2 x 10 ^-6.
Thanks for answering my question, good luck for tomorrow! :)

To be honest, i don't really think that's a question.
You probably missed out the last part.

Um. That's not a question...

Yhh.. What everyone else said :|
