a train starts from rest and travels for 1km with uniform acceleration. It travels a further 2km at uniform speed, and is then uniformly retarded to rest in the next kilometre. If the total time taken is 8minutes find the max speed of the train.
the answer is 45km/h
I had a similar question to this except they told u the total distance instead. But this ones a abit different. I know the process, like get an equation to have t = and then merge them all togther to equal 8mins and solve the lbhablah.
But I dont know wat equations to use?
I thought v^2 - u^2 = 2as and s=ut + 1/2 a t^2
I tried that but it didnt work out lol.
Any tips? D;?!
THanks!

May be you did not find out the intermediate velocity which the train got after running at uniform acceleration to uniform velocity.
Use V=u+at to find the uniform velocity.
Use V=u+at to find the uniform velocity.
