Why haven't aliens found us yet

Then the US (badly) tries to cover it up. After the press released a confirmed story about a UFO crashing at Area 51, G-men swarm the place and confiscate all the photos, interview footage, and parts of the crash...replacing it with some cloth and string, telling the press to re-write a story saying it was just a "weather baloon"
I don't think they want us to destroy this planet, I think it has the best resources out of all the other planets in our galaxy...possibly even farther than that?

Well, assuming they exist in the first place, if they are advanced enough to find us and travel here, we are probably of no interest to them. Think about it, they would have to be incredibly advanced. Compared to them, we would be at the level of civilization and technology that ants are to us.
If they are nearer to our level of tech and civilization, they don't stand a chance of finding us.
So, really the best chance of finding alien life is to find some form of microbial life on another planet or moon in our solar system. The best chance of a meaningful encounter is to find another civilization at about our level and tech nearby. However, given that the nearest star is 4 light years away, and with our current level of technology it will still take decades to reach, so the chances of meeting an alien race in our lifetime is pretty slim.
However, our great, great great grandchildren should have some fairly advanced space tech, if mankind survives that long. So, if they exist, perhaps they will find them.

they have found us when they are closer to earth than we think some visit in their physical bodies and other are on a different dimensional plane and we can't see them.

or they're pacifists, and are terrified of us contacting other sentient beings and starting a galactic war.

Maybe they don't want to be found by us and put in a cage to be *** probed and played with . .

Simple. They are imaginary. No such things exist.

how do you know whether they have or haven't found us? And why should they feel obligated to announce their presence?
