I have had a single jar of vaseline for years , dipping into it occasionally with my fingers. ..It is stored in a warm, dark place. If bacteria were able to grow on it I am sure that this would have occurred, but it hasnt. Vaseline is a petroleum product and such products are not known to encourage the growth of bacteria. Vaseline is often used to dress cuts and wounds and has mild antiseptic (anti-bacterial)properties.
