Explain the science behind 'Saviour Siblings'

-Doctors take the cord blood from the savior sibling and give the sick child a stem cell transplant (the medically correct term for a bone marrow transplant). The cord blood is hematopoetic stem cells (blood stem cells) just the same as marrow. The sick child goes through high dose chemo and radiation to kill their existing marrow, the cord blood is infused the same as any other blood product, the cells naturally make their way to the bone, engraft and begin producing new marrow and blood and immune system.......
Can someone please explain the science to do with creating a 'Saviour Sibling' or 'Spare Parts Babies'? The IVF process and whatnot.
