If the bump is in back of the heel, it may be a bone spur. In pre-MRI days we diagnosed these with a simple x-ray.
I'm not sure about treatment. A Tullis heel cup might work, but you should really get a diagnosis first, not just treat symptoms.

See a podiatrist. You may not need an MRI at all, unless someone has already told you that? If so, have a discussion on the possible causes.
