Don't get me wrong, I have all A's and a great GPA so I'm not a moron, but I just don't feel premed. From shadowing several doctors I am sure I am interested in medicine, but sometimes I just feel like I'm not a serious enough person to be a doctor? I mean, a week or two before an exam I am a robot, but most of the time I am a really laid back goof-ball. I play video games, I tell stupid jokes, and I even still watch cartoons in private like some sort of kid. I don't get stressed ever (even during finals week I am generally really relaxed and mellow) but I just sometimes think that when I am around family members who are doctors, or other pre-med students, we are just completely different types of people . . . ?
They just seem so serious all the time. I get the feeling they actually read science articles and do other school related stuff for fun. They always seem so stressed and worried about every exam. I just can't relate to any of them (so I usually study alone).

You are totally doctor material. As long as you want to be a doctor, and can do the work and make the grades, then you're fine.
Those stressed out people die young. Those of us who are more laid back enjoy life more.
Not getting stressed is a good thing. If you can keep that up during medical school and residency, you'll be ahead of most of your colleagues.
Most pre-med students will stress out over every little thing and still not make it into med school. Others cruise through college, the MCAT, and interviews and get right in. You're the second type. Go with it.

What you're describing doesn't sound unusual at all - for a student, medical student or a doctor! Don't forget, medicine is a huge field and there is room for such a dazzling array of personality types!

My dad is a doctor. And a damn good one at that. He used to be a professional drummer and his band was on the radio in the 80s. He is hilarious at home and out of the work setting. And he tells jokes to help his patients lighten up. You may not be the A-type personality. But you don't have to be to be efficient at your job, if this is what you truly desire.
