Call me crazy but I've encountered my fair share of fat or "overweight" doctors telling me how I need to lose weight to get good blood pressure levels & so on. I know their telling the truth but a lot of other ppl might not take them seriously if their telling patients suffering from conditions "oh yea, u need to definitely lose a few pounds", & their overweight themselves! I feel like well this is your expertise & your fat so if your ok I should be too, right? I know the answer is NO but shouldn't our medical docs practice what they preach? Is that too much of a crazy idea?

Ouch. Yes, we should. Actually, when I was a med student in the early '60s, the evidence about the link between lung cancer and smoking became more convincing, and a lot of physician smokers stopped. Especially the chest surgeons.

Not necessarily. Just like the clergy, doctors succumb to pleasures of living and may not be able to control their bad habits. That doesn't mean that they cannot preach what is good for another person. I hate vegetables and milk but that shouldn't prevent me from recommending it to my patients. Likewise, priests lectures us about sins and chastity, but, they too commit sins and we've seen how many have been involved in sexual abuses.

It would be ideal, but honestly does it matter? If you need to lose 20lbs, then you need to lose 20lbs. It doesn't matter if you are told this by a healthy doctor or one that is obese.
