i was wondering what if i was wandering in the woods and i seen a wolf and i howled at it what do you think would happen? would it take it as a threat or would it howl with me?

they will howl back,and they may approach you...i have done this with wolves and coyotes...i actually had a wolf approach my campsite in Alaska...he ran off when he saw it was not another wolf...they won't attack...they will investigate to see if its a wolf invading their territory,but they are not looking for prey and once they find out they likely will leave...i think actually if a wolf is stalking a person,the best thing they could do is howl at them...prey would never do this...and it confuses them...they don't take chances on something they are unsure of,because an injury is a likely death sentence to any wild animal...coyotes are a bit different...i live in Texas and we are crawlin with them...they do group together ,and howl,but its a much different sound...its actually a very scary sound to hear out in the woods at night...it will make your hair stand up...it sounds nothing like a wolf...and strangely if wolves and coyotes inhabit the same area,the coyotes will not make a sound...ever...wolves kill them on sight...
