1] both of these take about 30 minutes, in the machine
2] you must hold still for the entire test, so get comfy!
3] a CT is just a bit boring [ make a mental list of all the teachers you ever had; or all the kids in your kindergarten class; or all the songs you know with 'happy' in the title..]
4] an MRI is VERY noisy - like all kinds of dif sound effects!
5] I close my eyes so I don't feel claustrophobic
6] yes, you are totally conscious - no medication is given
7] sometimes contrast 'dye' is injected thru an IV for some studies

They are both fast.
CT scan is like many x.rays of your body in layers.
MRI is also many layers of images but using different energy source.
The time depends on the area that will be scanned.
let's say that a CT/MRI of the head would take 10-15minutes
of the whole trunk 30minutes or so.
You are aware the whole time. its non-invasive.
And it's meant to look at the inside of your body with more detail than a simple X-ray
