I have no idea what they mean nor what they do. What exactly is going on? And can you tell me how I go from one form to the other? Maybe give examples? Thanks!

Any exponential function can alternatively be written in logarithmic form. For example, 5^3= x can be written as log (base 5 in subscript) of x= 3

1000 = 1 x 10^3 is the exponent form

log(1000) = 3 is the logarithmic form
