My 8 yr old would like help with her maths. Express 46.8 as a mixed fraction. (Lowest Terms)

She had this for her homework. And i am completely baffled by it. Can anyone help?

0.8 = 8/10 = 4/5

so, 46.8 --> 46 + 0.8

i.e. 46 4/5

Now, Divide numerator and denominator by 2

then, 468 / 10 = 234 / 5, in lowest form

Just a try..not 100% seems a bit extreme for 2nd/3rd grade..but 46.8=46 8/10=468/10=264/5..the decemial is eight over ten...multiply the deminoator(10) to the whole number (46) add the numarater(8) then divid by a common multiple(5) and that gives you 264 over 5
