Bill was baking two different kinds of bread. One recipe called for 3 1/2 cups of flour. The other called for 2 1/3 cups of flour. How much flour did Bill need in all? Can anyone help? That's the full question. Also can you show how? Thanks!

You need to find the common denominator or he two fractions, which is 6. (3 Times 2 is 6) To make 1/3 have the denominator of 6, You multiply both the numerator and denominator by the same number. ( What you do to the top you must do to the bottom) So 1/3 would equal to 2/6 and 1/2 would equal to 3/6. So you add. 3 3/6 + 2 2/6 = 5 5/6 cups of flour. Hope this helped! :)
