Chromatic number of this graph

Hi. Imagine a graph that is in the form of a square, with each vertex of the graph corresponding to a vertex of the sqaure. An X is drawn in the sqaure so that opposite vertices are connected.

What is the chromatic number of this graph? And why. I said 4 but is wrong.
