Well I think these 3 concepts relate to how a cell survives.
surface to volume ratio is the amount of nutrients that can be absorbed
homeostasis is balancing what you use to what you consume
gene expression will control the rate at which you cell controls nutrient intake and therefore is the ultimate manager of homeostasis
