25+x²=169

Minus 25 from both sides of the equation.

x²=144

Square root both sides of the equation

x=12

5^2 + x^2 = 13^2

13^2-5^2 = x^2

13x13 = 169 and 5x5=25

169-25 = x^2

144=x^2

x^2 = √144

x=12
