and any line parallel to this one will have the same gradient. The most useful form of the equation of a line (whish I assume youve met) is y-b = m(x-a), where m is the gradient, and the fixed point is (a,b), in this case (-2,......
through:(-2,0), parallel to y=-1/2x-2

Write the standard form of the equation of the line described.

Help please i have a test and i dont understand these types of questions

-
y = ax + b to be parallel a = -1/2

through (-2,0) => 0 = -1/2 *( -2) + b
0 = 1 + b
b = -1
then y = -1/2x -1

-
The given line has gradient = -1/2, and any line parallel to this one will have the same gradient. The most useful form of the equation of a line (whish I assume you've met) is y-b = m(x-a), where m is the gradient, and the fixed point is (a,b), in this case (-2,0). Plug in the values and you're finished.
