Is the relationship shown by the data linear? If so, model the data with an equation.x,3,9,......
I know it's a lot but I am desperate. I severely need help with theses questions cause I am completely clueless with math. Please help.

6. Is the relationship shown by the data linear? If so, model the data with an equation.

x, y
3, 2
9, 7
15, 12
21, 17

A.
The relationship is linear; y – 2 = -6/5(x – 3).

B.
The relationship is linear; y – 3 = 6/5(x – 2).

C.
The relationship is linear; y – 2 = 5/6(x – 3).

D.
The relationship is not linear.

8. The rate of change is constant in each table. Find the rate of change. Explain what the rate of change means for the situation.

Time (hours) Distance (miles)
4, 260
6, 390
8, 520
10, 650

A.
10; Your car travels for 10 hours.

B.
260; Your car travels 260 miles.

C.
65/1; Your car travels 65 miles every 1 hour.

D.
1/65; Your car travels 65 miles every 1 hour.

12. Tell whether the lines for each pair of equations are parallel, perpendicular, or neither.

y = -3/4x + 6
32x – 24y = –12

A.
parallel

B.
neither

C.
perpendicular

14. Write an equation for each translation of .

6 units down

A.
y = | x | + 6

B.
y = | x | – 6

C.
y = | –6x |

D.
y – 6 = | x |

19. The table shows the height of a plant as it grows.
a. Model the data with an equation.
b. Based on your model, predict the height of the plant at 12 months.

Time (months) Plant Height (cm)
3, 15
5, 25
7, 35
9, 45

A.
The relationship cannot be modeled.

B.
y – 3 = 5/2(x –15); 57 cm

C.
y – 15 = 5(x –3); 60 cm

D.
y – 15 = 5/2(x –3); 30 cm

25. Write an equation for each translation of .

5 units up

A.
y = | 5x |

B.
y = | x | + 5

C.
y = | x | – 5

D.
y + 5 = | x |

31. Write an equation in point-slope form for the line through the given point with the given slope.

(10, 5); m = -1/4

A.
y + 5 = -1/4(x – 10)

B.
y – 5 = -1/4(x – 10)

C.
y + 5 = -1/4(x + 10)

D.
y – 10 = -1/4(x – 5)

32. Write an equation in point-slope form for the line through the given point with the given slope.

(2, –6); m = -3/2

A.
y – 2 = -3/2(x + 6)

B.
y – 6 = -3/2(x – 2)

C.
y – 6 = -3/2(x + 2)

D.
y + 6 = -3/2(x – 2)

33. Write an equation for the line that is parallel to the given line and that passes through the given point.

y = ^2x + 8; (–2, –1)

A.
y = -1/2x – 3

B.
y = ^2x + 3

C.
y = ^2x + 3

D.
y = ^2x

34. Is the relationship shown by the data linear? If so, model the data with an equation.

x, y
3, –2
9, –4
15, –6
21, –8

A.
The relationship is linear; y + 2 = -1/3(x – 3).

B.
The relationship is linear; y – 3 = ^-3(x + 2).

C.

6) answer is c . try substituting the value of x & y from the given pairs, in each of the equation and find out which one satisfies it

8) answer is c . the car moves 130 miles in every two seconds interval. so its velocity is 130/2 = 65 miles per hour

12) answer is c. for an equation of the form y= mx+ c, slope of the line is given by m. here y = -3/4x + 6 so the slope is -3/4 for the first line
for the second line, 32x – 24y = –12 ie. 24y=32x+12, on dividing both sides ny 24, we get y=4/3 + 0.5 .........thus its slope is 4/3

when the product of slopes of a pair of lines are -1, they are said to be perpendicular....here -3/4*4/3 = -1, so we say that the lines are perpendicular

14) answer is b. we are asked to find a function which reduces the input value by 6 y=|x|-6 satisfies the condition that y will always be 6 units lesser than the absolute value of x

19) answer is c.try substituting the value of x & y from the given pairs with x being the time and y being the height, in each of the equation and find out which one satisfies it....from the data it is clear that the plant grows 10 cm every two months ie 5 cm every month so after 12 months the plant grows 5*12=60 cm

25)answer is b. we are asked to find a function which has the output value 5 units greater than the input value. in y=|x| + 5, the y value is always 5 units great
