0 = (100+V1)×5.00, so 500 + 5V1 = 18V1, 13V1 = 500, V1 = 500/13 mL-New volume = 18/5 x 100 ml.Then subtract the original 100 to work out what must be added to total this volume.......
How many milliliters of 18.0 M H2SO4 must be added to 100 mL of H2O to give a solution of 5.00 M H2SO4?

-
Use the dilution equation, V1M1 = V2M2, where 1 means the original, and 2 means the diluted solution.

In this case, V1×18.0 = (100+V1)×5.00, so 500 + 5V1 = 18V1, 13V1 = 500, V1 = 500/13 mL

New volume = 18/5 x 100 ml. Then subtract the original 100 to work out what must be added to total this volume.
