Some math questions I need help with

1) Find the equation of the line that goes through the points (-2,5) and (4, -7)

2) Solve for x: -3+2(9x-5) =5(3x+2)

3) Simplify for all: x= -3: 6x^2-54/5x+15

4) Solve for x: x^2=5x-6

5) Solve for x and for y: 2x-3y=7
5x+2y=8

6) Solve the following equation using quadratic formula: x^2+6x+7=0

7) If 800 students from Hudson college are from New Jersey, and this constitutes 8% of student population, how many students attend Hudson college?

8) Perform the indicated operation: Simplify your answer completely; (2x-1)^3

I don't need the answers I just need help to get to the answers. It's really hard for me. =( Thank you!

i know u don't want the answers but i'll do them with other numbers :P

1) Draw a graph representing how the lines would look like, count the x + y change from start point.
Example: Find line goes through (8,-8) and (1,7)
->: slope = 7x in change + -15y in change, slop = -15/7 -> 7=-15/7+b -> b=7+15/7 = 49+15/7
Answer= 64/7

2) -2y-7(5y-8) = -9+2(-8-y) -> -2y-35y+56=-9-16-2y -> -2y-35y+2y=-56-9-16
-> 56+9+16=35y Answer= 81/35

3) x=-5 (3x^2-60/3x+15) -> 3x-5^2-60/3x-5+15 -> 3x25-60/-15+15 -> 75-4+15 Answer = 86

4+5) not sure what to do from that one (i'm doing these without reference, try a math site E.G. Wolframalpha)

6) (x+4)^2-25=0
(x+4)^2-25 -> (x+4)(x+4)-25 -> x^2+8x+25-16 = x^2+8x-9 -> (b^2-4ac) 8^2-4(-1)(9) =100
-> -b+/-*sqrt*100/2xa -> 8+*sqrt*100/2x1 = 18/2=9 -> 8-*sqrt*100/2 = -1 Answer= (1,-9)

7) 100%/8% = 12.5 -> 800x12.5 = 10,000 students.

8) (3x-1)^3 -> (3x-1)(3x-1)(3x-1)-> do equations Answer = 27x^3-27x^2+9x-1

This is the one about the college.
800=8%
8000=80%
80,000=800%
800%/8= 100%
So since you divide 800% by 8 to get 100%, you would divide 80,000 by 8 to get 100% (your answer would be 10,000

4) x^2 - 5x + 6 = 0
(x - 2)(x - 3) = 0
x = 2 , 3

1 is a bit confusing to explain. You have to use both points, and as you know, they are in (x,y) format. Take both points and subtract the x's from eachother (x2-x1/y2-y1) Then subtract the y's from eachother. Put them over eachother to find your slope. So you have 4- -2 and -7-5. Your slope would be -6/12 or -.5.

From there you set up an equation

y=mx+b

You have your slope and a point. Using your point fill in the equation(you can choose either point)

5=-.5(-2) +b

Then solve for b. -.5(-2) =1 Then take it to the other side so b=4.

your final equation is y=-.5x+4. Let me know if you need help some more, just add additional information! good luck:)
