Simple algebra....standard form

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-04-09] [Hit: ]
The slope, m = (-1/2) and the y-intercept,......
what is x+2y=0 in standard form?
what would m and b equal?

my answer was y=-x/2 but i think it's wrong.
thank you :)

It is given in standard form. You are looking for the slope-intercept form, which you did correctly. To find that form, isolate y.
x + 2y = 0
Subtract x from both sides.
2y = -x
Divide both sides by 2.
y = -x/2
What you would want to do is get x as its own factor. Turn -x/2 into (-1/2)x.
y = (-1/2)x
Slope-intercept form: y = mx + b
The m here is -1/2 and b is 0.

You are right. And additionally

m = -1/2

b = 0

-
its is already in standard form
ax+ by = c...

x+2y = 0
2y =-x
y = (-1/2)x

m = -1/2, b = 0

-
No, your answer is correct. The slope, m = (-1/2) and the y-intercept, b = 0
