Can someone please solve this equation by elimination

x-y= -5
2x+y= -4

-y and y cancel each other so x+2x is 3x and -5 +-4 is -9
so 3x=-9 ===> x=-9/3 ===> x=-3
-3-y=-5 ===> y=_3+5 ===> y=2
