What is 4x + 2x + B = 26

I just forgot on how to do problems like this.

i think the clue is in understanding the difference between "x" and "B"
- "B" looks like a parameter because its capitalized ( a parameter is a known value you don't have to worry about )
- "x" looks like a variable ( an unknown value you have to work out )

you could then provide a solution for "x" that contains "B", because "B" is some known value:
4x + 2x + B = 26
6x + B = 26
6x = 26 - B
x = (26 - B) / 6

that's the solution for "x". you can just assume that "B" is a known constant, so you are not supposed to work it out. you just treat it like any other number.



if "B" was a variable:
x = (26 - b) / 6

then it wouldn't be a problem either, because in this case it would mean that there are infinitely many solutions. any value will do for "b" (or for "x", when you have solved for "b". whichever one of them you choose as the free variable)

I assume you are trying to solve the equation for x:

4x + 2x + B = 26
6x = 26-B
x = (26-B)/6

No you didn't. This is unsolvable. Your memory is intact.

perhaps what you are trying to solve is x .. x=(26-b)/6 .. 3 and 8 works ..and so are infinite values of x and B would b the image of x

6x=26-B
x=(26-B)/6

X=3
b=8

u cant solve a single eqn with 2 variables in it.
