^ that sign is the indicey...just in case. lol but can u explain please........
Please can you explain how multiplying our brackets works? Before you think about giving me the answer...im not the best at maths! So can u take a look at these please: thank you

A) 3(2a + 7)

B) 5(3x - 2y)

C) 2(4g^2 - 3g)

ps.."^" that sign is the indicey...just in case. lol but can u explain please..

ok, so to expand brackets, we must multiply everything on the inside of the bracket by the number on the outside. in the first question there are two terms inside the bracket. terms are separated by an operation symbol, either plus or minus.

so for question one the two terms inside the bracket are 2a and 7. to expand the bracket we simply multiply these terms by three so the answer is 6a+21.
A. 3(2a+7)
=6a+7

in the second question the same rules apply. we have two terms on the inside of the brackets; 3x and -2y, so we must multiply them by 5.

B. 5(3x-2y)
=15x-10y

in question three, the same rules apply yet again, however we now have an indicey, don't worry about that, it is all part of the one term. the two terms inside the bracket are 4g^2 and -3g. so we must multiply them by two.

C. 2(4g^2 - 3g)
=8g^2-6g

we cannot collect these terms because one has a power and the other doesn't.

hope this helps.

Hey there :)

The basic idea is this - you multiply the thing inside the brackets by the number outside the brackets - and you do this ONE expression at a time.

So

1) 3(2a + 7) this really means 3(2a) + 2(7) so that is 6a + 21

2) 5(3x - 2y) ============ 5(3x) - 5(2y) ====== 15x - 10y

3) 2(4g^2 - 3g) =========== 2(4g^2) - 2(3g) ====== 8g^2 - 6g

-
a) it means (3*2a), then + (3*7) . u get (6a+21)
b) it means (5*3x) then minus (5*2y). u get 15x-10y
c) it means (2*4g^2) then minus (2*3g). u get 8g^2- 6g
