I'm not going to solve this for you, but try to give you a tool to solve this type of problems.
First you need to "rearrange".
8 3/8 and 2 89/1000 is mixed numbers, that is, numbers that are made up of an integer and a proper fraction.
We start with 8 3/8.
Here 8 is the integer (8 whole) and 3/8 the proper fraction, where 3 is the part and 8 (still) is the whole. You can compute this in two ways.
1) take the 8 whole and add the 3/8 = 8+3/8 (just do in on your calculator)
2) Multiply your whole 8 to the 8 in 3/8. 8*8=64. Now add the 3 in 3/8 to 64. 64+3=67. So,8 3/8 = 67/8. On your calculator 67/8 give the same answer as in 1.
Just do the same to 2 89/1000.
Now you have found how many L 8 3/8 and 2 89/1000 are. The only thing left now is to do the computation.
It's hard to write simple, but I hope you se what I'm trying to show.
