In this case Alun receives five parts to Berwyn's seven parts. Because Alun has 50 the five is being multiplied by ten to get fifty. You do the same process with Berwyn's amount so you multiply the seven by ten to get 70.
To get the total you add the two together so 50 plus 70.
To get the total you add the two together so 50 plus 70.

1.to find out the ratio of an amount you simple divide the total amount you have by the total ratio. however if you are given 1 subjects total then you will need to divided the total amount by their ratio to find what 1 ratio is worth
Alun=50/5=10(i ratio)
to get the total x the amount of one ratio by the total ratio
10x12=120(total amount).
2. we know that 1 ratio is worth £10, to find Berwyn ratio x the £10 by the ratio
10x7=£70( this is how much Berwyn receives)
(check- add both the ratios to see if your answer is the same as the total(£50+£70=£120) this means the answers are right)
