so first you need to work out how long it would take for him to paint 1 flower. you do this by dividing 4 by 3.
4/3 = 1 1/3
next you work how long it takes to paint 5 flowers so you times 1 1/3 by 5.
1 1/3 x 5 = 6 2/3 minutes
this equals 6 minutes 40 seconds as 2 thirds of a minute = 40 seconds

He paints 3 flowers in 4 minutes. So you need to calculate what time it takes him to paint 1 flower
3 flowers = 4 minutes
1 flower = (4 * 1) / 3 - 4/3
So Bob paints a flower every 4/3 minute
So the time required to paint five flowers = 5 * 4 / 3 = 20/3 minutes
Goodluck!

rate = 3 flowers per 4 minutes
= 3/4 flowers per minute

inverse rate = 4/3 minutes per flower

time required for five flowers = 5*4/3 = 20/3 = 6.67minutes (or 6mins and 40secs)

-
3 flowers in 4 minutes

4 minutes=4*60=240 seconds
3 flowers in 240 seconds

80 seconds per flower

5 flowers=400 seconds=6 minutes 40 seconds
or
6 2/3 minutes

or
20/3 minutes

-
3 Divided by four is 0.75 (one flower takes 0.75 mins )
0.75 times 5
3.75 minutes
approx 4 mins
