xy*2 - 4x*3

The *2 means squared and the *3 means cubed. The equation was to be answered by factorization- difference of two squares i.e. x*2 - 16 = (x+4) (x-4)

Thanks

first, take out the x

=x(y*2 - 4x*2) (you cannot take this as a difference of two squares yet because the square in the second part only applies to the x. However, 2^2 is 4, so using index laws, we can do this:
=x(y*2 - (2x)*2) (which is a difference of two squares)
=x(y+2x)(y-2x)

xy^2 - 4x^3
= x ( y^2 - 4x^2)
= x { y^2 - (2x)^2}
= x (y + 2x)(y - 2x)
