Eddie was five times as old as Dave.How old are they?Eddie is three times as old Dave meansx=3y…………..Eddie is 42 and Dave is 14 years old.PERSON.......
So here's the question.

Eddie is three times as old as Dave, seven years ago, Eddie was five times as old as Dave.
How old are they?

x=Eddie’s current age
y=Dave’s current age
Eddie is three times as old Dave means
x=3y…………..(1)
Seven years ago means we have to subtract 7 from both ages
x-7=y-7
then
Eddie was five times old as Dave
x-7=5(y-7)
x-7=5y-35
x=5y-35+7
x=5y-28…………(2)



Put the value of x from (1) to (2)
x=5y-28
3y=5y-28
3y-5y=-28
-2y=-28
Divide by -2 both sides of above equation
-2y/-2=-28/-2
y=14
Put the value of y in equation (1)
x=3y
x=3(14)
x=42
Eddie is 42 and Dave is 14 years old.

then age of Eddie is 3x(at present),
seven years ago,eddie was 5 times as old as dave.
=> (3x-7)=5(x-7)
3x-7=5x-35
=>2x=28 and x=14
=>age of eddie is 42 and that of dave is 14

seven yrs ago
daves age = x- 7
eddies age = 3x -7
3x - 7 = 5 (x-7)
3x - 7 = 5 x- 35
5x-3x =35-7
2x = 28
x= 14
eddie= 42 yrs old
dave = 14 yrs

E -- 7 = 5(D -- 7)
3D -- 7 = 5D -- 35
OR 2D = 28 OR D = 14 then E = 3D = 3*14 = 42
