You have the wrong sign, but otherwise it's right (-1/2=-4/8, +3/4=+6/8, and -3/8=-3/8)

When +/- fractions they all must share a common denominator and all +/- is accomplished in the numerators only.
-1/2(4/4) + 3/4(2/2) - 3/8 multiply by fractions equal to 1 to get the LCD and not change their values
-4/8 + 6/8 - 3/8 now you have a common denominator
(-4 + 6 - 3)/8
(-7 + 6)/8
-1/8
I don't know what you did wrong without seeing your work but in my experience working with 9th graders its usually a lack of integer rule knowledge. add/sub mult/div positive and negative numbers.

Your lowest common denominator is 8
–4/8 + 6/8 – 3/8 = (–4 + 6 – 3)/8 = –1/8.
I have not sen your work, so I cannot tell where you went wrong.
–4/8 + 6/8 – 3/8 = (–4 + 6 – 3)/8 = –1/8.

I got the same answers. Why do you think you were wrong?
