I am having a bit of a problem doing these problems, can someone please help me?
1. Find all real numbers x in [0, 2pi) that satisfy: tan(x)=3
2.Find all real numbers x that satisfy: 2sin^2(x)-3sin(x)=2
1. Find all real numbers x in [0, 2pi) that satisfy: tan(x)=3
2.Find all real numbers x that satisfy: 2sin^2(x)-3sin(x)=2
-
1. X= Tan^-1(3)=1.25
now you have to think in radians. 1.25 is in quad I, but the tan is also positive in quad III
SO x could be pi + 1.25=4.39
{1.25,4.39}
2.this is a quadratic
2(sinx)^2-3sinx-2=0
factor like 2b^2-3b-2=0
(2sinx+1)(sinx-2)=0
so 2sinx+1=0 or sinx-2=0
sinx=-1/2 or sinx =2 (this is not possible)
Sin is negative in quad III and IV
X= 7pi/6 in quad III OR 11pi/6 in quad IV
{7pi/6,11pi/6}
