Identify the equation y=2x3 as linear or not linear.
Why is y=3x2 not linear?
A. there is not a constant change in the x-value
B. a constant change in the x-value does not correspond to a constant change in the y-value
C. there is only one y-value for each x-value
D. there is a constant change in the x-value

A linear equation is an algebraic equation in which each term is either a constant or the product of a constant and (the first power of) a single variable.
y = 2x - 5 is a linear equation, as you can see its variables is all at the power of one.
Since terms of linear equations cannot contain products of distinct or equal variables, nor any power (other than 1) or other function of a variable, equations involving terms such as xy, x2, y1/3, and sin(x) are nonlinear.
so y = 2x3 is a non linear equation.
A nonlinear system is a system which is not linear, that is, a system which does not satisfy the superposition principle, or WHOSE OUTPUT IS NOT DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL TO ITS INPUT. Less technically, a nonlinear system is any problem where the variable(s) to be solved for cannot be written as a linear combination of independent components.
Answer to your last question is letter B, justifiable by the above statement on all capital letters.

y=2x-5 <---- this is linear because according to the linear function formula, y=mx+b is how you graph linear equation. m= gradient/slope and b = y-intercept.
to your second question, do u mean 3 times 2 or do you mean 3x squared? i cant answer your question because im not really good with english but i can tell you that a i suggest you trying to graph the equation and if its a straight line then it is a linear function and when you do not have the y intercept, you can subtitute the value of x which becomes a curve line when you graph it. hope i helped.sorry if i did not help.

The first is linear. The second is nonlinear because of B.
